Every bill in the mohalla, paid at your counter
Light bill, gas, water, broadband, EMI, society maintenance. The customer brings cash and a consumer number. You fetch the bill, take the money and hand over a printed receipt.
One system behind every biller
The Bharat Bill Payment System is run by NPCI. Instead of a separate tie-up with each electricity board, gas company and broadband provider, every biller sits on one set of rails. MehaiPay connects to those rails once, so a new biller appears in your app without you signing anything, the amount comes from the biller’s own system, the confirmation is instant, and a failed payment follows a complaint route that is the same everywhere in India. Fourteen categories are live today.
A sample of the billers live in the app, along with Tata Play, Mahanagar Gas, Bajaj Finance and the municipal corporations of most large cities. Prepaid mobile and DTH top-ups sit on the recharge screen instead.
Four taps, about forty seconds
Pick the biller
Search by name or pick from the category grid. The billers your counter uses most sit at the top of the list.
Enter the consumer number
Type the K number, CA number or account number from the customer’s old bill. Saved numbers come back automatically next month.
Bill is fetched live
The name on the connection, the amount due and the due date come straight from the biller. Nothing is typed by hand.
Collect cash and pay
Your wallet is debited, the biller confirms, and the BBPS receipt prints with a transaction reference on it.
Take the cash before you tap pay. Once the biller confirms, the payment cannot be cancelled.
Why they walk in instead of paying online
Every bill on your counter was one someone could have paid on a phone. They came to you anyway, and the reasons repeat every month.
- No smartphone at home, or one phone shared by the family
- No net banking, no card, and no interest in setting one up
- Wages come in cash, so the bill gets paid in cash
- Wants a printed receipt to keep, not a message on a screen
- Wants a person to call if the payment does not show up

The complaint route is the same for every biller
This is the part agents worry about — money taken, biller not updated, an angry customer the next morning. BBPS has one standard process for it, and you raise it from the transaction itself.
- A failed payment is auto-reversed to your wallet, normally within 24 hours
- A pending payment is tracked until the biller confirms or rejects it
- Our support desk follows the complaint with you, on call and on WhatsApp
Bill payment, answered
What if the bill amount fetched is wrong?
The amount comes from the biller’s own system, so it is what the biller currently shows. If the customer paid part of it elsewhere in the last few hours, the biller may not have updated yet. Wait for the next fetch rather than paying, or pay the amount shown — any excess sits as credit on the customer’s connection. A few billers do not support fetch at all; there you type the amount from the paper bill yourself, so read it twice before confirming.
What if the payment fails after I have taken the cash?
A failed payment returns the money to your wallet, usually within minutes and at the outside within 24 hours. Until the reversal lands you are holding the customer’s cash, so either return it and ask them to come back, or keep it against the retry. The transaction screen shows exactly which state the payment is in.
How long until the biller updates the customer’s account?
Most electricity boards, gas companies and telecom billers update within minutes. Municipal corporations and a few cooperative billers batch their files and can take up to two working days. The BBPS receipt is valid proof from the moment it prints, so the customer is covered even before their account shows it.
Are there billers that are not on BBPS?
Yes. Some small private schools, local cable operators and a few state departments have not joined yet. If a biller is not in the search, it is not live on BBPS. Write to support with the biller name and we will raise it — new billers are added to the system every month.
Do I need a separate login for each biller?
No. That is the whole point of BBPS. One MehaiPay login, one wallet and one agent ID covers every biller on the system. You will never register with a DISCOM or an NBFC separately.
Can I take a bill payment after the due date?
Yes. The biller will have added its own late fee, and the fetched amount already includes it. Tell the customer the figure on screen before collecting cash so there is no argument about the extra charge.
