Nobody should lose a day’s wages to reach a bank
Every person in India should be able to draw their money, send it, insure a life and pay a bill without leaving their own village — and the shopkeeper who makes that possible should earn a proper living from it.
An account is not the same as access
India has close to 6,50,000 villages and roughly 1,60,000 bank branches, and most of those branches are in towns and cities. In large parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and eastern Uttar Pradesh the nearest branch is eight to fifteen kilometres away. There is one bus in the morning and one in the evening.
For a daily-wage worker earning around ₹400 a day, going to that branch costs a day of work plus ₹60 to ₹100 in fare. Withdrawing ₹2,000 of a pension or an MGNREGA credit can cost a quarter of it before the money is even in hand. So people do not go. They wait until they have a reason big enough to justify the trip.
The result shows up in the account data. Almost every adult in India now has a bank account, and yet close to a third of those accounts see no customer-initiated transaction in a whole year . The account exists. The branch is simply too far to use.
Meanwhile there is already a shop in that village. It sells recharge, it is open twelve hours a day, the owner knows every customer by name, and people already trust him with cash. He is the branch. He only needs the rails, a device and an honest commission.
Banking within walking distance, run by someone who lives there
Stated plainly so it can be checked: put a working banking counter inside the daily walking distance of every Indian household, and make that counter a business the owner can live on.
Close enough to walk to
Cash withdrawal, transfer, bills, insurance and tickets at a shop the customer already visits. No bus fare, no lost day, no queue, no form in a language they do not read.
Worth the agent’s time
A counter has to earn. Commission is credited the same day, the slab is published, and we take nothing from the agent to join or to stay. An agent who cannot earn will not serve.
Safe enough to trust twice
Every rupee moves on NPCI or partner-bank rails with a reference number attached. A customer who is cheated once never comes back, and neither does the village.
Where we want to be by 2030
These are targets we set ourselves and report against. They are not guarantees, and we will say so publicly if we are behind.

Languages in the app

Six rules, and what each one rules out
A value that does not stop us from doing something is decoration. Each of these has cost us revenue at least once.
The agent earns first
Commission reaches the agent’s wallet the same day, before we account for our own margin. It rules out holding settlement for float income, and it rules out a joining fee dressed up as a kit, a certificate or a training charge.
Nothing hidden
The slab is published, the deduction is shown on screen before the agent confirms, and a rate change is announced 15 days ahead. It rules out silent slab revisions and the word ‘up to’ in a commission table.
Safety is not a feature
Biometrics go from the scanner to UIDAI encrypted; we never see or store them. It rules out selling customer data, running any service off a shared or borrowed login, and shipping a convenience that weakens authentication.
Build for the weakest phone
Every screen is tested on a ₹5,000 Android handset on a 2G-grade connection. It rules out heavy animation, a 200 MB app and any flow that assumes a fast network or a big screen at the counter.
Say no to what we cannot support
We add a service only when a partner, a dispute route and a support script all exist for it. It rules out launching a category to look complete, and it is why we still do not offer lending or credit against a wallet balance.
Somebody answers
24×7 on the phone, in Hindi and English, answered by a person who can see the transaction. It rules out a chatbot as the only night channel and a support line that closes at six while counters are still open at nine.

A note from the founding team
We started this company in Kota because we watched it happen at close range: a woman standing outside a branch at eleven in the morning, having spent ₹70 and half a day to withdraw ₹1,500 of a widow pension, being told the server was down and to come back tomorrow.
There is no clever technology in fixing that. The rails already exist, NPCI built them, and the banks are on them. What is missing is a counter close enough to walk to and a shopkeeper for whom running it is worth the trouble. Our entire job is the boring part — keeping the app up, settling on time, answering the phone at night, and not quietly taking a cut we never mentioned.
We will get things wrong. When we do, we would rather you tell us on the phone than leave quietly. The number is +91 8003070100 and it is answered at any hour; anything you want in writing goes to mehaipaybiz@gmail.com and is answered within four working hours.
