Cash on your counter, money at home in a minute

A mason in the city hands you ₹8,000. His mother, four hundred kilometres away, gets an SMS from her bank before he finishes his tea. You keep 0.4% of it.

Who needs this

The people who queue for it

Four out of five transfers here are a worker sending money home. The rest are people whose own branch is too far to bother with.

The migrant worker

Paid in cash on site, off work after the branch shuts. Sends home twice a month.

The family at home

No branch within twenty kilometres. The money has to land today, for school fees.

The small trader

Pays a supplier in another district and needs a UTR number to prove that he paid.

The student

Hostel fee, exam form, rent. Parents send it through the shop they have always used.

IMPS, NEFT, RTGS

Three rails, one screen

The app picks the right one by default. It helps to know why, because a customer will sometimes ask for a rail by name.

RailSpeedWhen it runsAmount
IMPSCredited in under a minute24×7, Sundays and bank holidays included₹100 – ₹25,000
NEFTThirty minutes to two hours24×7, settled in half-hourly batches₹100 – ₹25,000
RTGSWithin thirty minutesBank working hours, 07:00 to 18:00₹2,00,000 and above

RTGS starts at ₹2 lakh, so cash remittance over a retail counter runs on IMPS and NEFT in practice. Use NEFT when the receiving bank's IMPS is down — the app tells you, instead of letting the transfer fail.

How it works

Five steps at the counter

The first transfer for a new customer takes about three minutes. Every one after that takes under a minute, because the sender and the beneficiary are already saved.

  • No form to fill and no photocopies to keep
  • IFSC filled in from the account number, not typed by hand
  • Receipt with the UTR goes to both phones on SMS
Become an agent
1Register the senderName and mobile number. One OTP to his phone and he is on file, once and for all.
2Add the beneficiaryAccount number and bank. We send ₹1 across and read back the name the bank holds.
3Confirm the nameShow the sender the name on screen. If it is not his mother, nothing is sent.
4Take the cashCount the notes, enter the amount, and your wallet funds the transfer instantly.
5Hand over the receiptCredit confirmed with a UTR number, on screen, on print and on both phones.

Safety

It cannot go to the wrong Shanti Devi

One digit wrong in an account number is how cash remittance goes bad. We take that out of your hands before the transfer is even possible.

  • A ₹1 penny drop reads back the name the receiving bank holds
  • IFSC and branch looked up for you — no hand-typed codes
  • The account number is entered twice and must match
  • The sender registers on his own OTP, so the trail is his
  • Every transfer kept with its UTR, searchable for six years

Limits & commission

What the rules allow, and what you earn

Cash-based remittance is capped on purpose. The app blocks a transfer that would cross a limit, so you never argue about it with a customer holding cash.

LimitValueNotes
Per transfer₹100 – ₹25,000The receiving bank may cap IMPS lower
Per sender, per month₹25,000RBI cash remittance rule, counted across all agents
KYC-upgraded sender₹50,000Aadhaar and PAN verified once, inside the app

The monthly cap follows the sender's mobile number across the whole network, not just your shop. If a customer is at ₹24,000 for the month, the app says so before you count his notes.

0.4% of everything you move, credited to your wallet the same day, before TDS. No target and no monthly fee. A distributor earns an override on top of what his retailers process — put your own numbers into the commission calculator.

When a transfer fails

The money comes back. Here is the clock.

A transfer fails because the account is frozen, dormant or closed, or the receiving bank is down. It happens on roughly one transfer in three hundred.

1

The bank marks it failed

It shows as Failed or Pending in the app, never as Success. Do not send it again and do not take a second lot of cash.

2

Auto-reversal to your wallet

IMPS reversals are usually back within minutes, and by T+1 at the outside. NEFT can take until the next working day. You refund the customer from that.

3

Still stuck? Track by UTR

Open the transfer, tap Raise a claim, and we chase the receiving bank with the UTR. Claims are closed inside five working days.

A pending transfer is money held by a bank, not by MehaiPay. The full process, including what the customer is owed for a delay, is written out in the refund policy.

Questions

Money transfer, answered

Does the sender need a bank account?

No, and that is the point of the service. The sender needs a mobile number that can receive an OTP. Only the person receiving the money needs an account.

What if the name at the bank does not match?

Stop. Do not save the beneficiary and do not take the cash. Ask for the passbook or a bank SMS and check the account number again. Banks hold names differently — initials, a husband's name, a spelling — so a close match is normal, but a different name means a wrong account.

How long does a failed transfer take to come back?

An IMPS reversal is usually in your wallet within minutes and by the next working day at the outside. NEFT can take until the following working day. If it is not back within five working days of a claim, the receiving bank pays compensation under RBI rules and it is passed on.

Can one customer send more than ₹25,000 in a month?

Not on a cash-based remittance, unless the sender completes the KYC upgrade in the app with Aadhaar and PAN, which lifts the cap to ₹50,000 a month. The limit follows his mobile number across every agent in the country, so sending the rest from the shop next door is not an option.

Do I have to keep any papers?

No photocopies and no register. The sender's OTP registration, the beneficiary name match and the UTR are the record, kept for six years. Print a receipt only when a customer asks for one.

What does the customer pay, and what do I earn?

The customer pays a small charge on the amount, shown on screen before you take cash, the amount comes to you the same day. Nothing is deducted from your wallet float and there is no monthly fee. Work out a full month on the commission calculator.
